Assistant Cook

Job Overview:

The Assistant Cook plays a vital role in ensuring that guests enjoy hearty, home-cooked meals in a clean and welcoming dining environment. Working alongside the Head Chef and other kitchen staff, the Assistant Cook assists in food preparation, maintains cleanliness in the kitchen and dining areas, and ensures smooth meal service. This role requires teamwork, attention to detail, and adherence to safe food practices to create a delightful dining experience for guests.

Key Responsibilities:

Food Preparation & Service:

  • Assist in the preparation and serving of meals, snacks, and desserts.
  • Help prepare fruit salads, baked goods, and other meal components as directed by the Chef.
  • Ensure guests have enough food at each table and replenish as necessary during meals.
  • Support special meal services, such as outdoor cookouts and candlelight dinners.
  • Monitor food storage and assist in the proper use of leftovers to maintain variety in meal offerings.

Kitchen & Dining Room Cleanliness:

  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, dining room, and necessary room.
  • Wash, dry, and put away dishes as needed, ensuring proper sanitization methods are followed.
  • Wipe down countertops, cutting boards, and frequently touched surfaces with sanitizing solutions.
  • Sweep and mop floors after each meal, ensuring mop water is changed regularly.
  • Vacuum the dining area and clean windows and doors as needed.

Guest Experience & Team Collaboration:

  • Assist in greeting guests and providing refreshments upon arrival.
  • Help maintain a welcoming and clean dining environment for guests.
  • Work collaboratively with the Chef, dish person, housekeeping, and other staff to ensure smooth meal service.
  • Participate in special events such as campfire nights, cookouts, and themed dinners.

Compliance with Health & Safety Standards:

  • Follow public health department regulations, ensuring a kitchen ready for inspection at all times.
  • Monitor and record refrigerator and freezer temperatures daily.
  • Adhere to proper food handling, reheating, and cooling procedures to prevent contamination.
  • Ensure proper disposal of food waste to protect the septic system from excessive grease and debris.

End-of-Day Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the kitchen is thoroughly cleaned and ready for the next day.
  • Empty and take out trash, ensuring bear-proofing measures are followed.
  • Turn off kitchen equipment and ensure all food is properly stored.
  • Lock kitchen doors and secure the facility for the night.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in food preparation or kitchen assistance preferred.
  • Strong teamwork skills and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to follow instructions from the Chef and adhere to kitchen procedures.
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to lift and carry kitchen supplies and stand for long periods.
