This list is designed to ensure you have everything you need for your time with us at STGR! We’ve broken it down by categories to make packing easier. Note that some items are specific for certain roles, so make sure to check which items apply to you.
Clothing
Clothing should be practical for the ranch environment and weather conditions. Be sure to pack enough for work and leisure.
Work & Riding Gear:
- Jeans (for work, riding, and casual wear – no holes!)
- Work pants/shorts (comfortable & breathable materials)
- T-shirts/tank tops (quick-dry fabrics recommended for comfort and breathability)
- Long-sleeve shirts (for sun protection & chilly mornings)
- Western-style shirts (Western wear – look at Wrangler & Ariat for ideas)
- Cowboy boots (required for Wranglers – encouraged for all staff for the authentic Western experience)
- Work gloves (required for Wranglers, for animal handling and tough tasks)
Casual & Dress Clothes:
- Clothes to dress up (going-out tops, jeans, shoes for social occasions)
- Sandals or casual shoes (for downtime and relaxation)
- Hats
- Cowboy or wide-brimmed hats (for sun protection)
- Ball caps (for casual wear)
- Straw cowboy hats (great for summer, inexpensive on Amazon)
- Bandanas (required for Wranglers – great for sweat and sun protection during feed times)
Outerwear:
- Rain jacket (weather can be unpredictable)
- Insulated jacket or vest (it can get chilly at night, even in summer)
Additional Essentials:
- Socks & undergarments (moisture-wicking materials recommended)
- A swimsuit (or two)
- Belt(s) (for your Western wear)
- Sunglasses (UV protection for sunny days)
General Clothing Note: If you’re looking to save on Western gear, check out thrift stores in Fort Collins, such as Arc Thrift Store & Goodwill. They often have great options for flannels, jeans, and boots!
Gear & Essentials
The following items are essential to ensure you’re comfortable, prepared, and safe while at the ranch.
- Water bottle (hydration is key at 8,000ft elevation and dry conditions)
- Headlamp/flashlight (for evening tasks and walking around after dark)
- Sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher recommended)
- Lip balm (with SPF to protect your lips from the sun)
- Notebook & pen (for jotting down notes, tasks, or journaling)
- Toiletries (personal care items like toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, etc.)
- Phone charger (and any other charger for your electronics)
- Power strip (preferably with surge protection – we have limited outlets)
- Required for Wranglers:
- Multi-tool or pocket knife
- Watch (with countdown timer – essential for time management on the job)
- Laundry bag/basket (for keeping dirty clothes organized)
- Liquor (enough to share with others – it’s a great way to bond but don’t overdo it!)
Extras (Optional but Helpful)
These items are not required, but they can enhance your experience and comfort at the ranch.
- First aid kit (always a good idea to have on hand for minor injuries)
- Sleeping bag (if you’re planning to camp out during your stay)
- Books, journal, or hobby items (for your personal downtime)
- Decorations (to make your room feel more homey and personalized)
- Optional for Wranglers:
- Your own saddle or tack (if you prefer using your own gear)

These items are already available for you at the ranch, so there’s no need to bring them:
- Guns (unless with prior approval)
- Dogs (unless with prior approval)
- Horses (unless with prior approval)
- Bed linens (sheets, comforter/quit – unless you prefer to bring your own)
- Bath towels (unless you prefer to bring your own)
- Laundry detergent
- Liquor (unless it’s enough to share with the group)
